On behalf of the officers, board members and membership of the Massachusetts Judges Conference, I wish to extend my sincere congratulations to Chief Justice Stacey Fortes on her selection as the new Chief Justice of the District Court. I have had the honor of knowing Chief Justice Fortes for almost 30 years and I look forward to continuing to work with her to provide the full resources of the MJC.
Chief Justice Fortes was appointed by Governor Mitt Romney in 2006 and has served as a Trial Judge, First Justice, Regional Administrative Justice, and Chair of the District Court Committee on Racial and Ethnic Fairness. Before her appointment, she was a prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and served as the Chief of District Court Prosecutions.
Today, as the President of the MJC, I offer our full support and cooperation as Chief Justice Fortes begins this challenging new post. Please join me in extending our congratulations on her appointment as Chief Justice of the District Court.
Hon. Matthew J. Machera
